Mountain West Wellness Health Tips, Issue #018
November 18, 2012
Hi

Thanks so much for your subscription to our little newsletter. In this issue we are making a couple of announcements. One is that we are once again doing our toy drive for Toys-For-Tots this holiday season. If you donate a toy to them we will donate $130 in services to a friend or family member of yours and enter you in a drawing for free treatments! There are more details below. In addition there is a great article about a weight loss pilot program we have been running over the last few months with our hypnotherapist, Nicky Lee. This program has proven greatly successful with all participants losing about 15 lbs in 60 days. We will be launching it for real after the first of the year. Jack has also enclosed a little recipe for a tea to fight inflammation in your body. Lastly there is an introduction to our two new team members Lacy Segal, a Healing Touch Therapist, and Seth Drake, our new associate acupuncturist.
Enjoy!

New Weight loss Program Started

It is common knowledge that we are a country of overweight citizens and that this problem is growing at an alarming rate. Two-thirds of all adults are considered overweight and one-third are obese. In the spirit of offering everyone the opportunity to heal and become healthy, Mountain West Wellness decided to take on the challenge of helping those wanting to lose weight.

Jack partnered with Clinical Hypnotherapist, Nicky Lee in creating a comprehensive weight loss program that focuses on the physical and mental/emotional components of weight. While Jack has successfully treated weight loss issues for years, as has Nicky, they both agreed in the power of combing their treatment modalities. As healers, they understand that there is no separation between the workings of the mind and body, in fact, they are interdependent. For example, all of our feelings and beliefs surrounding food and our bodies are collected throughout our lives beginning in infancy. While many of these beliefs are conscious, there are an equal number of them that are operating without our awareness. Either way, these beliefs affect how we think about food, how & what we eat and ultimately have an impact on our weight. Our physical reality, in this case, our weight; is a direct reflection of our beliefs.

With a holistic approach to weight loss in mind, Jack & Nicky launched their first acupuncture/hypnotherapy weight loss program in September. The lucky participants received acupuncture, hypnotherapy, a customized diet and emotional support and counseling for 60 days, free of charge. The pilot program was a complete success with each participant losing an average of 15+ pounds. Our congratulations go out to each of them for their success and dedication to the program!

Look for the official roll out of this program sometime after the first of the year. We are very excited about our initial results and we look forward to continued success in the future. If you want further information about the program or are interested in participating, please contact us 303-648-4066.

Share-A-Gift 2012 Toy Drive

The fast approaching holidays are a time of giving and sharing and at Mountain West Wellness we are very excited to be joining forces, once again, with the City of Boulder Police Department in their holiday toy drive. Community service is important to all of us at Mountain West Wellness and is an integral part of supporting our philosophy of “helping as many people as possible, one person at a time.”

The Share-A-Gift Toy Drive is an annual holiday project that provides much needed toys for low income families who reside in the Boulder Valley School District. It has been in operation since 1972 and each year over 600 families and approximately 2,000 children, birth to age 14 receive the benefits of these community donations.

In support of the toy collection effort, Mountain West Wellness will have a drop box here at the office beginning November 16th for new and gently used toys. The complete “wish list” of needed toys will be available at the clinic but the requests include bicycles, books, games & puzzles, toddler toys and backpacks filled with school supplies. Since the economy has yet to fully recover, a large number of families are anticipated to need our assistance. Your generosity will be greatly appreciated!

For every toy that is donated, Mountain West Wellness will provide your friends or family members with a gift certificate for a complimentary consultation, evaluation and 1st acupuncture treatment valued at $140.00. We will take care of the mailing and the postage for you. Simply provide us with their names and addresses. This is a great holiday gift offering your loved ones a chance to become healthy while giving needy children the gift of a happy holiday.

Stop Inflammation Tea Recipe

This is a variation of a great tea from Malaysia. It is particularly useful for anyone with acute or chronic inflammation in their body.
1. Buy fresh turmeric and cut a piece that is about 1.5 inches long and peel it.
2. Mash the turmeric and put in a small pot.
3. Add about 2-3 cups of coconut milk.
4. Add about 1 tbs. of green or black tea.
5. Sweeten to your taste with honey or cane sugar - less is better.
6. Simmer the mixture for about 5 minutes.
7. Strain the tea and drink it.
It may not sound great but this is actually a lovely tea and very helpful for inflammation.

For a modern twist on this you can follow this version:
1. Buy fresh turmeric and cut a piece that is about 1.5 inches long and peel it.
2. Mash the turmeric and put in a small pot.
3. Add about 2-3 cups of coconut milk that has been blended with MCT oil (medium chain triglycerides) in a blender for about 10-15 seconds.
4. Add about 1 tbs. of green or black tea.
5. Sweeten to your taste with honey or cane sugar - less is better.
6. Simmer the mixture for about 5 minutes.
7. Strain the tea and drink it.
The addition of MCT oil will make the mixture more frothy and creamy in texture. In addition it will add a stronger anti-inflammatory nature to the tea.
